New on ABC "Resurrection" Recap and review of Pilot Aired Sunday March 9, 2014

OMAR EPPS IS BACK!!! RED IS BACK!!!

Did you watch the new show? I did. All along thinking "Do I have time for another show?" I already have DVR set for an average 2 shows/night. NOW Sunday & Mondays I am starting to over load.

I have to say at times I found this show to be great. That moment when Mom (Lucille Langston) sees her 8 year old Jacob - who died 32 years ago - is truly heart breaking tear jerk moment. This show definitely grabs you. The performances are great. Obviously a lot of work has gone into the casting and direction of these talented folks and interesting characters - MOSTLY.

Every few scenes you get a character that seems to be a reject from UNDER THE DOME - possibly the worst cast and directed talent pool in years. This is a syndrome form the TV shoot schedule. As an actor that as appeared on TV shows you have little to ZERO preparation beyond a little direction at the call back as they looks for just fit. Some actors adjust well to this (mostly those with strong Improv background) while others - mostly those picked for looks over talent - struggle. Good direction, filming and editing can hide the bad acting of pretty faces, but when a director insists on artsy fartsy True Detective style long panning shots with CW type actors, you just fail. Sorry, Samaire Armstrong, I am referring to your over / under acting. Most TV shows would probably be great to have you. In this strong cast you stand out in a bad way.

Cinematography does not quite match the tone of the show. Too matter of fact look for me. Feels more like Steel Magnolias than a JJ Abrams style sci fi mystery. JJ has nothing to do with this show but it has that something weird is going on and over the course of 5+ seasons we may get a reason why. Or it may be another lost WTF ending?"

Show starts with 8yo Jacob (Landon Gimenez) waking up in China. From the Good Earth rice fields, Immigration officer, Martin Mellamy (Omar Epps) bring Jacob home to Acadia, Mo. Acadia Mo is 2014's TV version of River City Ia (Music Man). Distrustful of outsiders, the town has a cold reception - especially from Sheriff Fred Langston (Matt Craven), whose wife died with Jacob 32 years ago.  Jacob remembers things about that fateful day differently than initial reports. Apparently a man was there that no one knew about - a man that is apparently a former employee of Henry's and was having an affair with Fred's wife. So there is no shortage of future Soap appeal.

Through out episode there is a strange man (Sam Hazeldine) heading for Acadia. Lurking around town, he seeming is threatening to Jacob. At end of Episode we learn he is Caleb Richards, Elaine's father.

Good show. Could be great. Time will tell.
